021 Facts are a Stubborn Thing

“Facts are a stubborn thing” said Dr. Peter Glidden as he shared some that truly grabbed my attention:

  • In 2008, 615,050 total knee replacements were performed on the United States’ adult population
  • This was 134% increase in 9 years (since 1999)
  • During the same time period, the overall population size increased only by 11%
  • Prediction is that by year 2020, there will be 1,000,000 surgeries per year

Published research does catch my attention, especially as an attorney, because when we had medical experts testify in court, they needed to support their professional opinions on standard of care by those published medical journal articles.  There was a vetting process and supposed verifications in place that gave them confidence in the published data.

So, when I recently viewed Dr. Glidden’s video on “Bone & Joint Health” and his published book “Attempt A Cure with Wholistic Medicine” both citing studies, my ears perked up.  Especially as I saw his reference to a published medical journal Arthritis & Rheumatology (2014; 66:2134-43) which reported the following conclusions:

Approximately one-third of knee replacements in arthritis sufferers shouldn’t have happened in the first place.  Only 44 percent of these procedures are fully justified, say researchers from the Virginia Commonwealth University in the US, after analyzing 205 cases of total knee replacements.  In fact, the need for such surgery was “inconclusive” in a further 22 percent of cases and “inappropriate” in 34 percent, which suggests that more than half of all total knee replacement procedures are dubious.  As approximately 600,000 knee replacements are done in the US alone every year, more than 200,000 could be unnecessary if these findings are to be believed.                                                                                                     (“Attempt A Cure” p. 116)

Both Dr. Joel Wallach (founder of Youngevity) and Dr. Peter Glidden, who is a big proponent of Dr. Wallach and Youngevity products, have stated how they see the problem of bone and joint issues, including arthritis, and why surgery itself does not fix the underlying problem. 

I learned the truth of their viewpoint first-hand.  I had been told in my 40’s by an orthopedic surgeon that I would need to have a joint replacement (my right thumb base) but to wait as long as I could since I could only have one in my lifetime.   My waiting period was a progressive increasing of ibuprofen intake to deal with the pain.   By age 68, I was up to an intake of 10-12 ibuprofen daily – and it masked my pain well.  (I did not consult my liver and the effects it was suffering – sorry, liver). 

At that point, if you had asked me about my health problems, I would not have listed an arthritic thumb and hand – I had masked the pain so well it was off my radar as a problem.  So, it was for other general reasons that I decided to buy and try the 90 essential nutrients in the Healthy Body Start Pak – I can’t even remember specific reasons but just general “health” improvement since I was getting older, I think, because the people I heard talk about it voiced how much improvement they had had.

The FDA highly regulates how I can speak about my results, or anyone else’s, and I always have to put a disclaimer at the end of any information that deals with health issues or products – I get it, but it makes it hard to share details with you, especially those who may be dealing with bone and joint problems similar to what has been shared here.

So, here’s the deal….both Dr. Wallach and Dr. Glidden would tell you that arthritis happens because the joints have run out of the raw materials that they need to keep themselves healthy, and because the unassuming patient has been consistently eating foods which cause inflammation of the joints.  The intervention here is relatively straightforward.  Stop eating the inflammatory foods and put into your body the 90 essential nutrients.
