Stinky Feet, Bad Breath & Dryer Sheets

What do stinky feet, bad breath & dryer sheets have in common?

Yeah – that is quite a picture to conjure up – but the answer is interesting.  They all can be addressed with natural essential oils rather than by using purchased products that have raised chemical and toxic concerns for many folks.

Some of you may be newer to my weekly blog, but in the past, I have done some major sharing on “essential oils” – you know, the fragrant life essence of a plant which has been gently extracted through the process of steam distillation or cold pressing.  The purely extracted oil is then used to restore and balance an individual’s physical, emotional, mental and spiritual natures.

Years ago, when I was introduced to Youngevity supplements, I learned about essential oils.  Yep – went to workshops, practiced applications, even attended ones that demonstrated how the oils were extracted!  Verrry interesting.

I devoured the “Foundational Aromatherapy” book compiled by multiple experts (Leiann King, Brenda Wright & Amanda Reynolds) – and I attended an application workshop in person with Brenda Wright learning how to apply and blend and use essential oils.

But I am no expert – I just call myself a “convert”.  If I can address a problem with an essential oil as well or better than store-bought items, I will do it!  Why?  Because I have experienced great responses over the years.

I will give you references below to lead you back to the “major sharing” in essential oils that I have done, but what brought this to mind is that I am going on an international trip.  In making my packing list, I included what I carry on every trip – my small essential oils bag with my top “go to” favs in it.  That blog “Have Kit Will Travel” is HERE.

And the major “training” I gave on using essential oils was in two blogs – Part 1 HERE and Part 2 HERE.

But I am not going to leave you without extra goodies added today –and yes, they relate to Stinky Feet, Bad Breath, and Dryer Sheets!

I did some research on the concerns around ‘fragrance’ when I heard someone mention that they always buy ‘non-fragrance’ items.  I wondered why but didn’t show my ignorance and instead went the famous ‘Google’ route to learn more.  It was not pretty.

One current research report really concerned me when it noted a 2011 study that found that breathing in scented products caused:

  • Irritation to the eyes and airways
  • Allergic skin reactions
  • Migraine attacks
  • Asthma attacks

These were tied to fragrance of laundry products.  They stated the researchers found dryer vents emitted more than 25 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) which they described were gases released into the air.  In fairness, they did point out the need for more study of the problem.  But then they added concerns around chemicals that were considered carcinogenic.

And yes, I quit reading after this statement:

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) classifies seven of the VOCs that were found in dryer vent emissions during the study as hazardous air pollutants (HAPs).

Enough already….so on to stinky feet and shoe powders.  Yep, the blog by “Don’tMessWithMama” was along the same track.  She pointed out the fragrance used in shoe powders and sprays don’t disclose exactly what’s in them but she was on a mission to get artificial scents and fragrances out of her home to avoid toxic chemicals as much as possible.  She followed the asthma, allergies and other respiratory issues concerns – and interestingly, she gave a recipe similar to the one I am going to share with you.  She used essential oils in it.

Now, the bad breath topic – nope it is not a fragrance thing.  It is other additives – up popped a Food & Nutrition article on “7 Best Breath Mints That Aren’t Packed with Chemicals”.  They mentioned things like artificial sweeteners such as aspartame and saccharin.

They did share a few that were gluten-free, allergen-free, no high fructose corn syrup, artificial coloring, or sweeteners – that’s a win!  But others had xylitol, organic corn syrup, and some with caffeine.  Interestingly, the ones without “taboo” ingredients were made with toxin-free and organic ingredients and most had essential oils in them.

So here is my offering to you – 3 essential oil recipes which help you avoid the toxic ingredients and have a natural and healthy way to address stinky feet, bad breath and dryer sheet laundry help.

I put them on a DOWNLOAD HERE so you can print and enjoy them.

Here’s to your less-toxic days ahead!
